🥧 Pastry Pie / Meat Pie 🥧

Ingredients:

Dough:
3 cups all-purpose flour
250 g butter or margarine
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp baking powder
• Cold water (as needed to form dough)

Filling:
300 g minced meat
2 small potatoes (diced)
1 carrot (diced)
1 onion (chopped)
1–2 seasoning cubes
• Salt & pepper (to taste)
1 tbsp flour (for thickening)
1/2 cup water or stock
2 tbsp oil

Egg Wash:
1 egg

Method:

1. Cook the Filling
Sauté onions in oil until soft. Add minced meat and cook thoroughly. Stir in diced potatoes, carrot, seasoning cubes, salt, pepper, and water/stock. Cook until vegetables are tender, then thicken the mixture with flour. Set aside to cool.

2. Prepare the Dough
Combine flour, salt, and baking powder. Rub in butter until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs. Gradually add cold water to form a soft dough. Rest for 10–15 minutes.

3. Shape the Pies
Roll out the dough and cut into circles. Spoon the cooled filling onto each circle, fold, and seal the edges carefully.

4. Bake
Brush the pies with beaten egg for a golden finish. Bake at 180°C (356°F) for 25–30 minutes, until golden brown.

Tips:

  • For a crispier crust, chill the dough before rolling.
  • You can add herbs like thyme or parsley for extra flavor.
  • Serve warm with a side salad or dipping sauce.
