A classic Texas Sheet Chocolate Cake with a soft chocolate sponge and warm glossy chocolate frosting. Perfect for family gatherings, parties, or a sweet dessert treat.
🧁 Ingredients
For the Cake
• 250g all-purpose flour
• 400g granulated sugar
• ½ tsp salt
• 1 tsp baking soda
• 225g unsalted butter
• 240ml water
• 30g unsweetened cocoa powder
• 120ml buttermilk
• 2 large eggs
• 1 tsp vanilla extract
For the Chocolate Frosting
• 115g unsalted butter
• 30g unsweetened cocoa powder
• 80ml milk
• 1 tsp vanilla extract
• 450g icing sugar, sifted
👩🍳 Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 175°C. Grease and line a sheet cake pan.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, salt, and baking soda.
- In a saucepan, combine butter, water, and cocoa powder. Heat until the butter melts and the mixture becomes smooth.
- Pour the hot chocolate mixture into the dry ingredients and mix well.
- In another bowl, whisk together buttermilk, eggs, and vanilla extract. Add this to the batter and mix until smooth.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.
- Bake for 18–22 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- While the cake is baking, prepare the frosting. Melt the butter in a saucepan, then stir in the cocoa powder and milk. Bring to a gentle simmer.
- Remove from heat and add vanilla extract and sifted icing sugar. Mix until smooth and glossy.
- Pour the warm frosting over the warm cake and spread evenly.
- Allow the frosting to set before slicing and serving.
