🍫 TEXAS SHEET CHOCOLATE CAKE 🍫

Rich, Soft, Moist & Perfectly Chocolatey!

A classic Texas Sheet Chocolate Cake with a soft chocolate sponge and warm glossy chocolate frosting. Perfect for family gatherings, parties, or a sweet dessert treat.


🧁 Ingredients

For the Cake

• 250g all-purpose flour
• 400g granulated sugar
• ½ tsp salt
• 1 tsp baking soda
• 225g unsalted butter
• 240ml water
• 30g unsweetened cocoa powder
• 120ml buttermilk
• 2 large eggs
• 1 tsp vanilla extract

For the Chocolate Frosting

• 115g unsalted butter
• 30g unsweetened cocoa powder
• 80ml milk
• 1 tsp vanilla extract
• 450g icing sugar, sifted


👩‍🍳 Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 175°C. Grease and line a sheet cake pan.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, salt, and baking soda.
  3. In a saucepan, combine butter, water, and cocoa powder. Heat until the butter melts and the mixture becomes smooth.
  4. Pour the hot chocolate mixture into the dry ingredients and mix well.
  5. In another bowl, whisk together buttermilk, eggs, and vanilla extract. Add this to the batter and mix until smooth.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.
  7. Bake for 18–22 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  8. While the cake is baking, prepare the frosting. Melt the butter in a saucepan, then stir in the cocoa powder and milk. Bring to a gentle simmer.
  9. Remove from heat and add vanilla extract and sifted icing sugar. Mix until smooth and glossy.
  10. Pour the warm frosting over the warm cake and spread evenly.
  11. Allow the frosting to set before slicing and serving.

For an extra rich and chocolatey Texas Sheet Cake, add 100g chocolate chips to the batter before baking.
